Clara Blackwood
is a poet and visual artist living in Toronto. Her first book of poetry, Subway Medusa, was published by Guernica Editions in December 2007. Subway Medusa is the inaugural book in Guernica’s First Poets Series, which showcases first books by poets thirty-five and under. From 1998 to 2004, Clara ran the monthly Syntactic Sunday Reading Series at the Free Times Café. She completed her B.A. in English Literature at the University of Toronto in 2008. Her poetry has appeared in such magazines as the Hart House Review, Misunderstandings Magazine, Surface & Symbol and Carousel.
Sonia Di Placido
is a graduate of the Ryerson Theatre School, Acting, class of ‘96. She has performed and worked as a theatre director, drama coach, stagehand, dramaturge and playwright both abroad in the UK, Italy (‘96/97) and, at home, in Canada. In 2005, Sonia joined the Canadian Opera Company as an ongoing part-time supernumerary to experience Opera performance firsthand. Sonia has worked in the publishing and performing arts industries, both as a performing artist, a marketing specialist and as an arts administrator. She holds a post-graduate certificate in Magazine Publishing, 2003, from Ryerson University and an Honours BA in Humanities from York University, 2006. A member of the Association of Italian-Canadian Writers (AICW) and an associate member of the Canadian Playwrights Guild, she continues to write fiction, non-fiction, poetry and plays. She published her first chapbook of poetry, Vulva Magic, in 2004 with LyricalMyracle Press. Sonia recently published her second book of poetry titled Forest Primitive in September 2008 by Aeloushouse publishing. The piece is a poetic literary translation and interpretation of fan artworks created by visual artist Holly Briesmaster.
