is a poet, writer and editor who only visits earth at the winter solstice, whenever the mood strikes her or her intergalactic craft needs an oil change. Her work has appeared in various magazines and anthologies, including Prairie Fire, TransVersions, On Spec, 2001: A Science Fiction Poetry Anthology, and Northern Frights 4. David Clink

is the Artistic Director of the Rowers Pub Reading Series. He is the webmaster of poetrymachine.com, a resource for poets. His first book of poetry, Eating Fruit Out of Season was published by Tightrope Books in 2008. He is the cleverest fellow writing poetry on the Toronto scene.

Kate Marshall Flaherty

as last seen “poeming” people randomly in parks, cafes, classrooms and the hospital. When she is not writing spiritual poetry by candlelight at home with the kids and cinnamon cookies in the oven, she dons her green hat and “gets out” to hot spots as her alter ego, party girl! She is over the moon that James and Sue of Piquant Publishing will publish their first book of her poems in 2009. That’ll be ANOTHER reason to party! She has three books on her shelf, “Tilted Equilibrium,” “String of Mysteries,” and “Hobbeldehoy,” and is a favourite of the Toronto scene and a multiple winner of local poetry contests.

Pelayo Matute

of Kirsten Sandwich will be reading Twas the Night Before Christmas, by Clement Clark Moore

Clement Clark Moore was born on July 15th, 1779. Although he was more famous as a professor of Oriental and Greek literature, he is better known to us as the author of A Visit From Saint Nicholas (more commonly referred to today as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas). The poem first appeared anonymously in the Troy, New York Sentinel on December 23, 1823, and was reprinted frequently thereafter.

Susan Lynn Reynolds

began her career as an elf for Santa Claus. In the long draggy months of the arctic summer when the hammers and drills in the workshop were silent and the black flies thronged the tundra too thick to step out the door, she stayed indoors reading the rejected children’s books and sucking on stale candy canes. This is where she learned her love of poetry.Eventually, when she’d read all the books, she started to write so as to have something new to read.
When she hit her growth spurt at puberty she was politely asked to leave the elves workshop but she has continued to workshop her poetry and writing wherever possible.

Kirsten Nelson, Taavi Burns and Pelayo Matute

have been singing in choirs, both together and separately, for several years. In 2003, they decided to embark on a three-person singing and song-writing project of their own. Kirsten Sandwich was the result. This a cappella trio sings both original works and a variety of cover songs arranged for three voices. Their material spans a broad and eclectic range of genres and styles, from Renaissance madrigals to torch songs, and from lounge music to irreverent satire, but always with an element of the polyphonic choral tradition that brought them together.

Marina Malvada

began writing poems as an outgrowth of several other art practices such as painting, sculpting, and sound manipulation. She studied fine art at the Ontario College of Art and Design, where she majored in experimental drawing and painting. Her approach to poetry and spoken word is similar to that which she uses on canvass; a kind of spontaneous conception of a piece which she attempts to make sense of after the fact. Ms. Malvada has had the pleasure of featuring at Hot Sauced Words, The Art Bar and the Plasticine Poetry Series and is a fan of several poets who have read at these events. Among her many favourites poets are Jem Rolls, That Brown Bastard, and Clara Blackwood.
