A. F. Moritz’s /The Sentinel/ won the 2009 Griffin Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the 2008 Governor General’s Award. His poetry has received awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Ingram Merrill Fellowship, the Award in Literature of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Beth Hokin Prize of /Poetry/ magazine. /Night Street Repairs/ (Anansi, 2004) won the 2005 ReLit Award for poetry, and /Rest on the Flight into Egypt/ was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award. Moritz is editor of /The Best Canadian Poetry in English 2009/. The Toronto /Globe and Mail/ named /The Sentinel/ as one of its “100 Best Books of the Year”, and chose /Night Street Repairs/ as one of thirty-nine “Books of the Decade”. Moritz will travel to Shanghai, China in September as a cultural representative of Canada at Expo 2010.

ALEXANDRA OLIVER

Alexandra Oliver was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1970. Her poems have appeared in journals and publications worldwide, including Orbis Rhyme International, Nexus, Mezzo Cammin, Future Cycle Poetry, The Raintown Review, The Atlanta Review, The Toronto Quarterly and The Vancouver Sun, as well as About.Com’s Poems After The Attack anthology, a collection discussing and reflecting upon the aftermath of 9/11. Her first book, Where the English Housewife Shines (Tin Press, London, UK) was released in May, 2007.

Her most recent manuscript, The Hand of Scheveningen, was recently shortlisted for the 2009 CBC Literary Awards.

She has performed her work at venues as diverse as Lollapalooza, The Festival of Original Theatre, The Word On the Street Festival and The National Poetry Slam as well as for CBC Radio One and National Public Radio in the U.S. She was also a featured performer and interviewee in Paul Devlin’s 1998 documentary Slam Nation. An MFA candidate in the Stonecoast Creative Writing Program at the University of Southern Maine, Alexandra lives and works just outside of Toronto.
