August 15th: Jacob Scheier and Sue Reynolds
Jacob Scheier
Jacob Scheier is a poet and journalist from Toronto. His debut collection, More to Keep Us Warm (ECW Press) won the 2008 Governor General’s award for English language poetry.
Scheier’s poems have been published in literary journals and magazines across North America, including Descant, Geist and Rattle, and have been heard on CBC Radio.
He is also the co-winner of New York Community Media Alliance Award for best feature article in an independent publication, and is a regular contributor to Toronto’s NOW Magazine.
His latest poetry collection, Letter from Brooklyn, was published in Spring 2013 with ECW Press.
Jacob is offering his Ten Week Creative Writing Workshop Writing About Grief Fall 2013.
Through reading and writing creative non-fiction and poetry, students will work towards making their experiences of grief and loss speak to others. Subject matter is not limited to the death of a loved one, but can include, for example, a divorce/break up or losing part of a person or oneself through illness.

Sue Reynolds
Susan Lynn Reynolds is a writer, a writing instructor, former president of the Writers’ Community of Durham Region and former vice-chair of the national organization Canadian Creative Writers and Writing Programs.
She has won awards for her poetry, short fiction, non-fiction and her YA novel Strandia, and is the two time winner of the WCDR’s Summer Slam.
She has been leading writing workshops for female inmates at Central East Correctional Centre for seven years and is currently practicing psychotherapy under supervision in pursuit of her license as a psychotherapist.
