Bänoo Zan is a poet, translator, teacher, editor and poetry curator, with more than 120 published poems and poetry-related pieces as well as two books. Song of Phoenix: Life and Works of Sylvia Plath, was reprinted in Iran in 2008. Songs of Exile, her first poetry collection, was released in 2016 in Canada by Guernica Editions.
Letters to My Father is her second poetry book.
She is the founder of Shab-e She’r (Poetry Night), Toronto’s most diverse poetry reading and open mic series. It is a brave space that bridges the gap between communities of poets from different ethnicities, nationalities, religions (or lack thereof), ages, genders, sexual orientations, disabilities, poetic styles, voices and visions.

Michael Fraser
Michael Fraser has been published in numerous national and international anthologies and journals including: Paris Atlantic, Arc, CV2, and The Caribbean Writer.
He won ARC’s reader’s choice award for 2012 and was included in the Best Canadian Poetry in English 2013. He won Freefall’s 2014 and 2015 Poetry Contests.
His latest book is To Greet Yourself Arriving (Tightrope Books, 2016).

Georgia Wilder hosts the monthly poetry salon, Wild Writers, at the Poetry Jazz Cafe in Kensington Market.
She has been featured at many poetry events in Toronto and has publications of both poetry and short fiction, including Descant Magazine (2015), DoveTails: A Journal of Peace (2016), an award-nominated story in The Journey Prize (M&S 2015), and a 3rd place story in the Humber Literary Review (2016).
She completed a PhD in seventeenth-century literature (2000), and teaches undergraduate poetry courses and academic writing at the University of Toronto.
Ali Ibrahimi
Ali Ibrahimi uses poetry as a medium of resistance.
Born in Afghanistan, he was forced to flee the Soviet occupation and the experience informs his view of power, conflict and capital expressed in his writing.
He has organized antiwar events across the city.
Ali holds a Master of Biotechnology from the U of T and works in the pharmaceutical industry.
charles c. smith
charles c. smith is a poet, playwright and essayist who has written and edited twelve books. He studied poetry and drama with William Packard, editor of the New York Quarterly Magazine, at New York University and Herbert Berghof Studios. His poetry has appeared in numerous journals and magazines. charles was the founder of the Black Perspectives Cultural Program in Regent.
He also lectures at the Humber College post-graduate program in arts administration and was formerly the Lecturer, Cultural Pluralism in the Arts at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
His new book of poetry entitled travelogue of the bereaved (TSAR Publications) was released in October 2014 along with his book of non-fiction The Dirty War: The Making of the Myth of Black Dangerousness (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives). His chap book whispers was released in August 2014 at an interdisciplinary exhibit and performance at the Blink Gallery in Ottawa.Jacqueline Valencia
Jacqueline Valencia is a Toronto-based writer.
She is a senior literary editor at The Rusty Toque.
Her debut collection There Is No Escape Out Of Time is out with Insomniac Press.
Ian French
IF’s poetry channels the wisdom of Spirit, the rage of the wounded and the yearning that resides in every human heart. He says “every poem I write is a ‘shout out’ to the sacredness of our days, a three chord party jam, and a tribute to the triumph of love over fear.
IF was a member of the National Championship, Toronto Slam Poetry Team in 2013, winner of 2013 Buffalo International Slam and the 2014 Canadian Individual Slam Poetry Champion. In 2015, BRAVO! Commission a short form documentary about IF and in 2016, CBC produced the full-length documentary, IF THE POET, chronicling his journey to the World Cup of Slam Poetry, at age 55.
